Gazed

A liquid entity

made up of trillions of equations,

rumbles from within.

Bewildered and dazed,

filled with uncanned critters,

will you be fazed?

Marc Wellens

Gazed is a performance work [in the making] that displays an evocative blend of movement, voice, and visual storytelling – shaping the emotional journey of the viewer.

The work is rooted in the exploration of the research the (in)Animate Body, which introduces an uncanny fictional character; a fluid, shapeshifting, morphing entity that exists at the intersection of the human and the surreal. This performance excerpts a part of that character's journey, offering glimpses into their evolving identity.

Through vivid physicality, dreamy imagery, and the dynamic tension between being looked at and looking back, it invites audiences to confront their own perceptions and emotions. Gazed challenges the boundaries of the observer and the observed, offering a transformative experience that leaves the viewer perplexed, and driven to question the nature of being.

Since its work-in-progress sharing at Aaben Dans’ Aabent Laboratorium (Nov 2024), the work has continued to develop through residencies at Udviklingsplatformen for Scenekunst (DK) and Dansverkstæðið (IS), with an additional residency planned at Aaben Dans in August 2025. The work is currently entering its production phase, with a confirmed premiere slot at Teater FÅR302 in Copenhagen in autumn 2026.
